Trail Update

CCHS ongoing trail maintenance

March 2026: This winter has thrown everything at us on Montane and Fernie Ridge — snow, rain, ice, wind — you name it. The constantly changing conditions have definitely kept our grooming team on their toes, but they’ve risen to every challenge.

From grooming in the early evening hoping the trails freeze up overnight, to heading out before sunrise to get ahead of traffic, the crew has done it all. They’ve navigated tight corners, worked around post holes, managed singletrack sections on sleds, cleared fallen trees, and even had to dodge a moose or two along the way!

It hasn’t been an easy season, but thanks to their dedication and grit, the trails are holding strong.

A huge shout out to Dean, Don, Pat, Rick, Russ, and Tim — we couldn’t do it without you!

January 2025: Our groomers attempt a daily groom on Montane Nordic trails accessed from the Montane Trailhead. All trails are in top condition this month with the steady cold weather. Whether you are walking, biking or Nordic skiing, the Montane trail system is at it’s finest!

The Montane Nordic now winds it way through the future campground area and a new Multi use trail follows along Coal Creek featuring a beautiful bridge and seating area creek side. Check out the 2024-2025 Winter Trail Map for an up to date non-motorized map.

2024/2025 we are working with Tourism Fernie and Fernie Trail Alliance on the 30km Coal Creek Loop Trail and historical project. This trail will have access from the Montane Trailhead.
